History

Six Conservative Baptist pastors from the American Baptist Publication Society founded Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia in 1925, which is where the university got its start. A college department was established in 1932.

In 1952, the school moved to its current St. Davids campus and became an independent institution, renaming itself Eastern Baptist College. It changed its name to Eastern College in 1972. The college was renamed Eastern University after receiving university status from the Pennsylvania Department of Education in 2001.
